Daniel Mackay of the Preservation League of NYS, to speak in Batavia on the extensive affects that wind turbine development will have on the landscape of New York State.
Mr. Mackay is the Policy Director of the Preservation League of New York in Albany whose objective it is to protect the diverse and rich heritage of historic buildings and landscapes.
He will speak on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at 7:00 P.M. at the Homestead Event Center (the former Roxy Music Store), Batavia City Center, Main Street, Batavia, NY. Entrance from either front or rear. Parking is plentiful.
Mr. Mackay’s talk is timely for Stafford, Bethany, Perry, Sheldon, Wyoming, Alabama, Oakfield, LeRoy, Batavia and surrounding towns that are considering having industrial wind turbines, which would cover a large part of our 3 county area; and be interspersed among our homes and farms. The title of his talk is: “The Far-Reaching Consequences to the NYS Landscape From Wind Turbine Development”. Presently there are plans for the placement 3,000 wind turbines over six million acres.
Mr. Mackay will discuss the Preservation League’s role in proposing and setting public policy, to secure, enhance and protect the landscape of NY, while preventing irrevocable damage. He will explain and discuss the League’s position on the citing of wind turbines and the complicated consequences that could follow. He will specifically address the turbines situated in areas in and around our homes in the Genesee, Wyoming and Livingston Counties where the population density is as high as 80 people per square mile compared to that of the Tug Hill Plateau with an average of only 15 people per square mile.
Mr. Mackay’s talk will be of value and interest to anyone who wishes to increase their knowledge of wind turbine placement in the landscape. All are cordially invited to attend and to ask questions about this critical issue which has swept our area in the last year and would change the land for generations to come.
Mr. Mackay holds a BS degree in Geography from University of Chicago, and Masters in Environmental Education from Lesley College, Cambridge, MA, and trained at the Audubon Institute.
Mr. Daniel Mackay will speak in Batavia on Tuesday July 18th on the many aspects and impacts of wind turbines over Up State New York. The website of the Preservation League of New York State is www.preservenys.org.
