How to Spread the Word - Meetings, Hearings & Events

The Living In New York network accepts any and all announcements of activities that are related to both wind farms and to New York State residents.

This includes all town, village, county and state meetings, hearings, workshops and official gatherings, press conferences, as well as opposition group meetings, workshops, protests and seminars.

There are no rules of order ... if you know of an event that is not listed and should be, then post it! You do not have to be affiliated with the event in any way. We appreciate any and all input. Our only rule is - be accurate.

Posting an Event

- First, you must be logged into your account. Go to user/login to login, or to user/register to create an account.

- At the top of the sidebar, you will now see a box with your username at the top. The second item within the box, just under 'my blog,' should be 'create content.' Click on that.

- You are given a choice of types of content to create. This list will vary depending on your permissions on the site, but all registered users can create an event. Click on 'event' to see the event form.

Form Elements

- Title: every event needs a title. "Town of X Hearing" is sufficient, no need to be poetic. Including the town or county in the title is helpful, however.

- Area of Concern: if the event addresses a specific issue, such as noise, then select it. If not, feel free to leave it blank.

- Location: choose from the available counties. If your county is not listed, leave it blank and email effie@effierover.com to see that it gets added for next time.

- Description: again, no need to be poetic. If there is an established press release, you can copy-and-paste it in here, or just repeat 'Town of X Hearing.'

- Location: typically, these things occur at town halls, fire halls and community centers. List the street name, if you know it.

- Contact Person: whom can we call for more information (handicap accessibility, etc)? Enter 'Unknown' if you don't know.

- Email: can we email the above contact person? If so, enter an email address here.

- Phone: same as email, but using old-fashioned technology.

- Start: the date and time at which the event starts.

- End: the date and time at which the event should end. We have been giving two hours for town board meetings.

- Public: you'll need to check this, or no one will see the event except you.

- Audience: you may or may not see this section, depending on your affiliation. If you are affiliated with one of the listed groups and want this event to be highlighted for them, check the box. If not, or if you don't see this section, don't worry about it.

[Preview] - click this box to preview what your event will look like. Note: THIS DOES NOT SAVE the event.

[Submit] - click this box to save the event to the website. It should immediately appear in the calendar on the correct date. In addition, it will appear on the side-bar list of upcoming events as the time draws nearer. Events do not usually appear on the home page, so don't be alarmed that it's not there. If it's on the calendar, it's where it's supposed to be.

Congrats and thanks!!!!
