Have You Noticed?

Have the readers of this very interesting site, noticed that those who are pro wind turbines USUALLY are benefitting financially from siting on their property OR they WORK for the developers? Just read the local paper (Daily News). It appears those who are for the metal monstrosities are looking for a full wallet, not to whether they actually do what is promised. Why is it the information off the MET TOWERS is not available to the Public?

UPC Wind Management will be opening a location July 29 at 18 Market St in Attica, said Development Manager Helen Maxon Thomas.

"The reason for the office is UPC Wind Management is a company that very much believes in working with the local community and wants to establish a local presence as soon as we can," she said.

That will allow the company to make information available about wind energy, and provide a place for people to ask questions and meet with company representatives.

The Wayward Wind (Speech by Jon Boone)

INTRODUCTION

The United States east of the Mississippi River has about five percent of the nation's onshore wind potential. If industrial wind developers achieve their goals, the region will be saturated with approximately 300,000 wind turbines spread over millions of acres. New York, with .3 of one percent of the nation's onshore wind, could be saturated with
about 20,000-400 foot tall machines, spread over more than a thousand miles of terrain.

Support the Herald

** There has been a bit of dust-up about the Perry Herald and it Letters-To-The_Editor policy.

In all fairness to the Herald, they are a small newspaper that is running in the red. They have been getting plenty of letters and initially tried to print them all. The problem with that is that to do so they need to add extra pages, with raises their publishing cost while at the same time doing nothing to increase income.

Castile OKs 12-month Moratorium

A 12-month moratorium on wind turbine placement was approved by teh Castile Town Board.

No one spoke during the public hearing conducted before the Town Board voted on the issue. The moratorium prohibits placement of wind turbines in the town for the next year.

Portions of Castile had been included in the Dairy Hills Wind Farm proposed by Horizon. That generated protests from some residents, and the Town Board decided in April to enact a moratorium.

Perry backs off 30 days

It’s the question Town of Perry lawmakers had to face Monday night, should 60 giant wind turbines be set up in that Wyoming County town? The proposed project is backed by "Horizon", a turbine company based in Houston, Texas. Some neighbors say it will produce clean energy but others don’t want them in their town. Monday night a consultant presented its findings on the impact of the construction project and gave the green light to the town of Perry. The study is 2,000 pages long and with dozens of people watching over the meeting the Town Board members decided to take 30 days before making any final decisions. Donna and Bruce Tillapaugh worry about a plan that would put 60 turbines in the town of Perry by 2008. 14 of those turbines would go up within a mile of their home and they would stand 410 feet. Donna Tillapaugh, like many other residents, fears they will ruin the rural character of the town. “Before you saw the landscape and you saw the hills and the trees and now the trees that are 80 feet tall look like bushes next to them.”
