UPC opens office in Attica

Wyoming County

UPC Wind Management will be opening a location July 29 at 18 Market St in Attica, said Development Manager Helen Maxon Thomas.

"The reason for the office is UPC Wind Management is a company that very much believes in working with the local community and wants to establish a local presence as soon as we can," she said.

That will allow the company to make information available about wind energy, and provide a place for people to ask questions and meet with company representatives.

UPC Wind Management has expressed interest in potential projects which could include portions of Attica, Bennington, Middlebury, Bethany and Stafford. No formal proposals have been made.

The Italian company has five existing or planned wind farms in the United States and Canada. The nearest is a 75-megawatt facility planned for Prattsburgh in Steuben County.

It's nice when a big company

It's nice when a big company comes down to the small town and pays some rent. Plus, these people are only doing their jobs.

With that in mind, you definitely should *not*

Grab as many postage-paid reply cards as possible, write 'a' on each of them and toss them in the nearest postal box,

Park outside and play Barry Manilow loudly with your windows rolled down. Especially repeatedly,

Ask for a 'we support clean, safe power' sign, then peel the letters off with a hair dryer and use it for something else,

And never scatter small pebbles on the sidewalk in front of their office, then drive by on your lawn tractor with the lawn mower running.

Definitely not.
